There are many animals that never cease to amaze us. Blue whales are some of the most impressive and incredible creatures out there. They surely are great to watch and there are so many interesting facts about blue whales that there is no way you will not enjoy learning more about them. The aspect linked to blue whales that seems to make people wonder so much about them is the quantity of food that blue whales eat during a day. Blue whales are the largest animals that are known to exist today, so you can surely imagine that they eat a lot. Blue whales can shock everyone when learning that they eat somewhere between four and eight tones of food each day.

Most commonly, blue whales have 30 meter length and 180 metric tons weight. Of course, the weight is only average, as it can be up to 190 metric tons. When talking about blue whales, you need to know that there are three types of such animals that are known to live today. And unfortunately, because on a period of over a century, they are very much hunted, now the blue whales are animals in the danger of extinction. Because there are just a few blue whales left out there, in 1966, the international community decided to protect these animals.

Because they are so big, blue whales also are very difficult to weight. Of course, to be able to establish the average weight of such animals, they are actually weighted after being caught and cut into pieces. The weight is this way established by summing all the pieces. Having such a situation under consideration, you can surely make a general image about how big these animals really are. The largest blue whales to be weighted until now was found at 190 metric tones. Still, despite their large size, blue whales can move very quick and they can travel on very long distances, being able to cover about twenty miles in one hour. There is no wonder that these animals are found to be so impressive after all.
